Project overview
FairLoop is a niche marketplace built for the fairground industry in the Netherlands, connecting operators, vendors, and workers through listings, job postings, and availability calendars. The client needed a platform that could serve a multilingual audience across the Netherlands and wider Europe — with full support for English, Dutch, German, French, and Spanish — while handling local payment methods and complex listing structures unique to the fairground sector.
We built the entire platform on Sharetribe, delivering a fully functional, multilingual marketplace from discovery to payment in under 4 weeks.
The Challenges
FairLoop required a level of multilingual depth that goes far beyond basic language switching. The platform needed to serve users across multiple European markets with a seamless experience in their native language — from static UI elements to dynamic listing data entered by real users.
Full multilingual support across 5 languages — English, Dutch, German, French and Spanish
Dynamic listing data including titles, descriptions, and categories needed to be multilingual — not just the UI
Listing types and categories needed to be controlled and filtered based on listing type
Local Dutch payment methods — iDeal and Klarna — needed to be integrated alongside standard card payments
Complex listing structures specific to the fairground industry required custom field and category architecture
Wishlist functionality needed to allow users to save and track listings across the platform
Our Approach
We tackled the multilingual challenge at every layer of the platform. User language preferences are captured at sign-up and applied across the entire experience. Static platform content was translated and managed per language. For dynamic data — listings, categories, and fields — we integrated OpenAI to automatically generate multilingual versions of user-submitted content, removing the burden from sellers while ensuring quality across all five languages.
Payment localization was handled by integrating iDeal (now Wero) and Klarna alongside the existing Stripe credit card flow, giving Dutch and European users their preferred checkout methods. Listing types were configured to control which categories appear based on the type of listing being created, keeping the browsing and posting experience clean and relevant for every user.
We also built a wishlist feature allowing users to save and revisit listings — adding a layer of engagement and return visits to the platform.
